The Story of a Collaboration
No document of this scale is created in isolation. My journey inside the Glasgow Royal Hospital for Children began with Design Hopes, where I served as the official photographer capturing the project’s sustainable clinical cap designs. As the project photographer, I captured the visual narrative of the sustainable, plant-based theatre cap project. This design-led research collaboration with NHS clinicians and Strathclyde researchers won the 2025 Future Foundations Image of Research Prize, celebrating ecological innovation in clinical environments.
The creative chemistry and institutional trust forged during that project sparked a larger, collaborative vision: to celebrate the hospital’s ten-year milestone from the inside out.
Led by Dr Alyson Walker and Design Director Prof Paul Rodgers, Behind Our Walls was born. Working under strict clinical ethics, health and safety protocols, and non-disclosure agreements, my lens was given chaperoned access to document the heartbeat of the hospital, the 3,500 staff members who provide 24/7 care from the helipad to the morgue.
